Pop-up Market Collaborates to Fight Food Deserts

On a warm spring day under a gorgeous Carolina blue sky, Pop Up Produce was appreciative to be one of the many amazing organizations invited out by The Bulb for a pop up market at Birdsong Brewing Co.  The pop up market’s intention was to promote education on health and wellness while raising awareness to the efforts being done to support local food deserts. Birdsong's outside patio was packed with craft beer lovers, four legged friends and local neighborhood supporters all enjoying the lovely day and awesome vendors. Everywhere you looked people were having fun; enjoying the delicious donated food items (fresh produce from Dover Vineyards, strawberry jam from Bush-N-Vine Farms and soft bread from Sunflour Bakery), washing them down with a tasty Birdsong brew, listening to the incredible music styling of My Girl Whiskey and Me, all while supporting great causes.

It’s truly remarkable to have the community come together to support each other’s local businesses and initiatives while addressing food insecurity issues that affect Charlotte. At the Pop Up Produce table, we continued to empower those interested in gardening to start growing when they purchased their Fresh Start Kits. Our "Buy One, Donate One" program really resonated with everyone we spoke with. A local farmer who was extremely interested in the cause but had no need for a starter kit, made a nice donation to help support those in need.

Having fun and supporting local causes doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive. It’s pop up market’s like these that truly show what a community is about: working together and helping each other to have a greater impact. We look forward to our continued partnership with The Bulb and more pop-up markets in the future!
